From Mujeres a la Cumbre we invite you to “Mujeres a la Paz” a wonderful experience with the Cholitas that begins in La Paz, Bolivia. The Cholitas Climbers are a group of Bolivian Aymara women who have conquered peaks such as Illimani or Parinacota, in addition to many other six thousand peaks in South America.

The route

We will enter the heart of the Cordillera Real, the Condoriri National Park, which is home to more than twenty mountain peaks, some of which exceed 5,000 meters in altitude.

A nature reserve, also known for being home to many snow-capped peaks. Given the characteristics of Bolivia, and especially this mountain area, we can enjoy a pure and natural Andean scener.

Expedition 2024 itinerary: July 8 to 14

OPTIONAL: Ascent to Huayna Potosí from July 14 to 19

Itinerary

DAY 1 (July 8): La Paz (3640m)
Arrival in the city of La Paz (3640 meters above sea level), capital of Bolivia. We will have a city tour that starts at 3:00 p.m. through this picturesque city, to learn about its fairs, culture, and local markets.

We will carry out the equipment check and leave everything ready for the days of our mountain expedition. Tonight’s accommodation will be in a hotel.

Important: breakfast on this day is not included in the hotel, in case your plane arrives early in La Paz.

DAY 2 (July 9): La Paz (3640m) – Excursion to Tiahuanaco
This tour to Tiahuanaco or Tiwanaku (*), begins from the city of La Paz with transfer from the hotel, between 08.00-09.00 am. We will travel by shared transportation to the “Tiwanaku” monument, known worldwide as the greatest example of the degree of perfection that the country’s culture reached. The tour lasts 2 hours from the city of La Paz. We will continue our visit to the conventional museum and interpretation, the archaeological ceremonial center, the semi-subterranean temple, the Kalasasaya temple, the Puerta del Sol, the Ponce and Fraile monoliths, the astronomical temples. We will also visit the lithic museum where one of the most important sculptures is located, such as the Bennett monolith or “Pacha Mama.” To conclude, we will visit the craft center. We will return to the city of La Paz in the afternoon. Night in hotel.

DAY 3 (July 10): La Paz (3640m) – Condoriri Base Camp (4700m)
The Cholitas Climbers will guide us during our mountain expedition; while we will be able to share life experiences and talk closely with them throughout our stay in the mountain.

Departing with an early breakfast, we will leave La Paz at 8.00 am by private transportation. We will cross the Bolivian plateau surrounded by incredible Andean mountain ranges. After a 3-hour trip, we will arrive at a place called Rinconada de Condoriri, which is located at 4,500 meters above sea level.

There the donkeys will be waiting for us to transport the food and our equipment. We will do a 2-hour trek to the Condoriri Base Camp (4700 meters above sea level).

We will have time for talks and reflections along with an offering to Pacha Mama.

Tonight it will be in a mountain refuge.

DAY 4 (July 11): Condoriri Base Camp (4700m) / Cerro Pico Mirador (5200m) / Condoriri Base Camp (4700m)
This day will be key for our acclimatization to the altitude.

We will leave at 9:00 am from Condori Base Camp heading to Pico Mirador (5200 meters above sea level).

We contemplate 3 hours of trekking to the summit to then return to the Condoriri base camp. Upon return we will dedicate a space for introspection and gratitude activities.

Tonight will also be at the shelter.

DAY 5 (July 12): Condoriri Base Camp (4700m) / Cerro Pico Austria (5270m) / Condoriri Base Camp (4700m)
This day we begin our trekking at 9:00 am after breakfast, from the Condoriri base camp towards Cerro Pico Austria (5270 meters above sea level).

It will be a 3-4 hour walk to the top and then return to the base camp.

It will be our closing night of experiences with the Cholitas. We will share a special dinner with them. Last night in the mountain refuge.

DAY 6 (July 13): Condoriri Base Camp (4700m) / Return to La Paz (3640m) via / Tuni Condoriri
It is our day back to the city of La Paz. After breakfast we begin the return along another route: this time we will head towards the town of Tuni Condoriri which is located at 4800 meters above sea level. It is approximately 4 hours of trekking. We will arrive at noon to have lunch

in a typical place in Tuni. After arriving at our hotel in La Paz, we will have time to take a free walk in the afternoon, for example, visit the Mercado de Las Brujas, Plaza Murillo, Mirador Killi Killi, and/or Museum of Musical Instruments (*). Night at the hotel.

Day 7 (July 14): La Paz (3640m)
Breakfast at the Hotel. Airport transfers. Farewell and termination of services.

Itinerary – Optional Proposal HUAYNA POTOSÍ

Day 1 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 14): La Paz (3640m)
Breakfast at the hotel. Rest and day off.
Tonight we will all have dinner together with the women who only come to the
Expe del Huayna Potosí.
We will be able to share your experiences, sensations and anecdotes from your trip. We will say goodbye to continue on the way to our next objective: the Nevado del Huayna Potosí.

Day 2 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 15): La Paz (3640m) – Lunch Alto de Milluni Community – Huayna Potosí Base Camp (4800 m)
We have breakfast at the hotel in the City of La Paz and we will leave there at approximately 10 am.
This day will be very special for us because we will take you to meet the women of the Alto de Milluni Indigenous Community. Women shepherds, artisans, weavers, farmers who will share with us their most traditional practices along with their delicious gastronomy. They are great representatives of their community and it will be nice, through them, to get closer to their customs and culture. There you can appreciate their fabrics and crafts and take some gifts home. We will enjoy lunch prepared by themselves in a scenic environment with the Huayna Potosí in the background that will leave them speechless.
After lunch we continue our way (by private transportation) to the Huayna Potosí base camp. We will stay at the Casa Blanca Shelter, where you will meet Sonia, guide and administrator of the place. Strong, hard-working and professional woman if there is one. Her parents were the ones who built the shelter and worked there all their lives. Sonia was born in this shelter and was educated there. Her life is forever linked to this site. We will learn a lot from the conversations we can have with her, hot mates and dinner through her.

Day 3 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 16): Huayna Potosí Base Camp (4800 m) – Old Glacier 4,950 meters above sea level – Huayna Potosí Base Camp (4800 m)
We will leave Base Camp at 10 am heading to the Old Glacier of Huayna Potosí. It will be a one-hour walk that will help us continue with our adaptation to the altitude. Once there we will give you basic notions of mountain techniques and the use of crampons, use of ice axes, ice climbing and glacier transit. It will be between 3 to 4 hours of practice. Then, we will return to our refuge at the Huayna Potosí Base Camp to rest and replenish energy.

Day 4 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 17): Huayna Potosí Base Camp (4,800 meters above sea level) – Campo Alto 5,200 meters above sea level
We will leave the Huayna Potosí Base Camp after lunch towards the Huayna Potosí High Camp (5200 m). It will be between 2 to 3 hours of calm ascent. Once there, we will have warm mates to recover, rest and have an early dinner in the high altitude refuge. This day, we will have dinner early and go to sleep early; since at midnight we will have to be ready very early for our summit attempt.

Day 5 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 18): Campo Alto 4,200 meters above sea level – Huayna Potosí Summit (6,088 meters above sea level) – La Paz 3,600 meters above sea level
The day finally arrived! This will be our summit day. After a restful rest ;), we will get up at 12 am to prepare our mountain equipment. We will have a warm breakfast to leave with all the energy. It will be between 5 to 6 hours of ascent to the summit.
The path to the summit is technical. There is no great physical difficulty, but we must use a harness, rope, axe and crampons. The normal route to climb Huayna Potosí is a simple climb on a glacier.
The views on a clear morning from the top are incredible: the mountain is much higher than any other anywhere nearby, you can see the other mountains of the Cordillera Real, Lake Titicaca, the city of La Paz and part of the Altiplano .
Our return to Campo Alto is estimated between 2 to 3 hours. There we will have our lunch and then we will descend for an hour and a half towards Base Camp. There our transportation will be waiting for us to take us to the hotel in the city of La Paz.
At night, after a good nap, we will propose that we all go out together for dinner to say our farewell!

Day 6 HUAYNA POTOSI PROPOSAL (July 19): Breakfast in La Paz (3640 m) – End of Services
Breakfast at the Hotel. Airport transfers. Farewell and termination of services.
