Parinacota The most photographed Twin

Parinacota is one of the Payachatas (“Los Mellizos”). A perfect cone shape of the dormant volcano, its open crater (700 m wide and 240 m deep), larger than the Cotopaxi in Ecuador, is an attraction for many climbers. The eruption of the Parinacota was 8000 years ago, this caused a detachment of rocks of 22m towards the west side that blocks the water fall forming the Chungara lagoon creating a wonderful reflection of the mountain. First climbed by Joseph Prem and Carlos Teran in December 1928

Why does the Parinacota attract us?

This original mountain covered with snow, almost symmetrically shaped is the photographic dream of many tourists. It is the only volcano in Bolivia, with an open crater, and a surprising magnitude.

The climbing to Parinacota is classified 1 / F. It is not a technical mountain, but being a volcano of conical form that has a constant inclination of 40 ° the most difficult part is the ascent to the snow line, which is long and arduous due to loose sand and ashes. As always, the high altitude makes the climb a challenge.

Itinerary

3 Days Schudele:

DAY 1: After a 4 hour trip from La Paz through volcanic rock formations, we arrive at the village of Sajama (4,000 m). We drive in 4×4 to the end of a desert trail, which leaves us in High Camp (5100 m), where we spend the first night and make the ascent to the summit the next day.

DAY 2: After breakfast, we begin the ascent at 01.00 am. We walk on sand and volcanic rock until arriving at the glacier, where are the famous penitents of 1 m of height or more. After 6 or 7 hours of climb we reach the summit (6.330 m), where we will have a magnificent view of the immense crater with a deep fall of 100 m. finally we return to high field in 3 hours and the 4×4 takes us back to the town of Sajama. We enjoyed the hot springs and spent a quiet night in the hotel.

DAY 3: We relax in the hotel where we enjoy a good breakfast, then return to La Paz.
